Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American TV journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992, and chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She served on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively with the president Reagan to summits alongside Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
